I went with my parents to attend my sister’s graduation night in the evening. I was quite inspired by the talk given by the principal and the distinguished guest. It makes me reminisce the day when i collect my ‘A’ levels result. The principal also said alot of stuffs. LOL.

There was an american politician who once said that “if you get a degree today and stopped learning tomorrow, you are un-educated the day after.” In conjunction with lifelong learning, I feel that we should never stop exploring. Just like marco polo who dares to transcend the limit of boundary.

I believe that you control your own life and goal. Sometimes we take alot of hardships to reach our goal but it is definitely worth it.

I went to visit my friends for dinner in the evening, when they decided to watch Night at the Museum 2. At first, I was not very eager to watch the show because i didn’t watch the 1st sequel. Later, I was told that it was a comedy show and that it was not really related to the previous one. So we got 4 tickets and went in.

The movie started grapping my attention when “Kah Mun Rah” wanted to grab hold of the Tablet of Arkmenrah which he intends to use it to raise an army form the underworld and conquer the world. After he discovered that the combination has been changed, he order larry to decipher the tablet’s riddle and find the new combination before sunrise. This is when the interesting part comes in. He consulted Einstein Bobbleheads ad was told that the riddle’s answer is pi. They repeated 3.14159265 three times in the show.

Perhaps, this movie intends to bring across this message to the young kids that Pi is NOT 22/7. How does 22/7 comes about is because of the following continued fractions and we just cut off the 1st term.

Anyway, I enjoyed this movie. =D

I went to school today with JJ to attend a talk by Prof Chan on the number Pi. The number Pi is a very fascinating number. Surprisingly quite a handful number of people turn up for the talk. We got a sandwich and a drink before going into the lecture hall, but this is not our motive of coming to the talk. haha. Anything related to math is interesting.

Maybe I’ll just write a bit of what prof chan is talking today. Basically, he gave us some insights of how the number Pi came about and the various methods to approximate Pi. When we were young, we were always taught that Pi is 22/7.
This is definitely not true. In India, there is a very big banner that says that Pi is not 22/7.

Firstly, he gave some ways to approximate Pi. Methods like using series expansion for arctan, and polygon approximating method. But he say that using such covergence is slow and that it is accurate up to only abt 2 or 3 decimal place. Later on in the lecture, he show us some series that were able to converge to Pi rapidly. He also show us his work which he did in the past. The latest record is in 2009. This series is very special because just by calculating the 1st terms, it can accurately give Pi up to 73 decimal place.

I managed to take a photo of this Pi dish from Prof chan. Prof chan say that it was given to him by his mentor a few years back. It is a porcelain plate.

Don’t you think is very cool. Imagine next time if you are having a dinner, you can eat and at the same time read out Pi up to 88 decimal places! Hmmm, perhaps next time can keep a collection of such plates. Numbers like e, surd2 with its respective decimal numbers written on the rim of the plate. Lol!

Equation

I went to visit my relative near Tiong bahru Area today, when I chance upon seeing an institution named ‘Equation.’ It used to be a community centre where I played with my cousin when I was small. There is a basketball court next to it.

So I was a bit curious and went into the complex and I found out that it had become a private university named “National University Asia campus”, from USA. haha.

Life is full of mathematics. Isn’t it? =D

Hmmm, I was thinking of trying out something new. And I decided that perhaps, I could start my own blog! haha.
Maybe, I’ll explain more on why life is like a sinusoidal curve.

Don’t you all think life is like a sine curve?
Lets take any arbitrary point on a sine curve and let it represent your happiness. There are times when you are at the top of the curve, that is you feel happy. But there will be times where you will be at the bottom of the curve, do not worry, because, the next moment you know, you will be going back up the curve.

Cool right? Life is full of ups and downs. Thats how life functions, yea! and sine curve is also a function.
So life is like a sine curve.
